Dear Alumni,
I take this opportunity to extend my greetings to all of you. It gives me a great pleasure to write to all the alumni of Anna University regarding several developments, innovative projects that have been planned at Anna University to make this university as a University of Excellence. You have been responsible all these years to bring great name to this university.
Anna University is striving to reach greater realms in the annals of technical education. The University has endeavoured to provide the best of facilities and infrastructure to its students community and teacher fraternity. The university serves as a centre of excellence for fostering co-operation and exchange of ideas between academia and industry.
Anna University has already established a Technology Development Communication Channel (TDCC) to impart satellite based education, with the help of KU Band of EDUSAT, an indigenous education satellite developed by ISRO. University is also in the process of establishing Knowledge Data Centre (KDC) with the clear focus on promoting e-learning activities of the university. Several inter disciplinary, inter developmental activities are being carried out in the areas of Remote Sensing, Water Resources, Ocean Management, Geo-Science, Pharmaceuticals, Food, Environment, Nano-Science and Technology with strong partnership with Government, Industry and Society.
Anna University proposes to establish a world class Technology incubation centre to foster innovations and to translate innovations, ideas updated through research / projects of staff and students especially in the area of Electronics and Communication, Computer Science and Information Technology. You might be aware that Anna University with about 250 self financing engineering institutions under its fold produces globally accepted technical manpower. I am very pleased to inform all alumni that our students are well placed in major IT Corporate sectors such as Microsoft, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Texas Instruments and the feed back from these industries is very good.
With the growing enthusiasm between Industries and academia, the Anna University is planning an Information and Communication Technology park in which the technology incubation park is a major initiative. Anna University proposes to create a knowledge hub with IT Industries. The technology incubation park focuses on research and development in cutting edge technologies such as VLSI, Embedded Technologies, Mobile networks and nanotechnologies. The basic objectives of this incubation park are (1) to carry out research and development work with major industries as a collaborative research projects. (2) To deploy research project from industries to students. (3) To provide infrastructure, tools and other environment to incubate the technologies that are developed by students, staff and industries together and then transfer the technology within one year. (4) To provide early stage technology companies with the enabling tools, training and infrastructure.
Further to cater the needs of this massively growing institution, the University has submitted a proposal to the Government of Tamil Nadu for the need of spatial allotment to the tune of 500 acres of land to Anna University for setting up another University campus in stature comparable to International standards. This International additional campus of Anna University shall house the Interdisciplinary Research Centre, Knowledge Data Centre, Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre, Technology Business Incubator, Technology Venture Business Centre, Intellectual Property Right Cell, Information and Communication Technology Park, Advanced Research Centres such as Centre for Nano-Science and Technology, Space Technology, Advanced Material and Composites Technology to name a few.
The University has more milestones to reach and with the strong support of the Government, the industrialists and the academia, we are confident in taking a lead role in realizing the vision of transforming India into a developed country by sharing its knowledge base in advanced and thrust areas of national importance and in becoming a World Class Institution by 2020 of international acclaim.
In order to fulfill the roadmap of Anna University and in order to become University of Excellence at the International level, we need the encouragement and support from all the alumni. It is proposed to re-construct the old buildings in the College of Engineering, Alagappa College of Technology and Madras Institute of Technology campus and about three lakhs sq. meters of buildings will be constructed for class rooms, labs, hostels, administrative buildings, students amenities centres, convention centre etc. to match the international standards.
It is estimated that the expenditure that will be incurred to reach the several milestones in the road map would be about 300 crores, a sum the University will find difficult to bear by itself.
I, therefore, appeal to all our distinguished alumni to come together and fund for this project generously. I also request you to communicate to us the information about various funding agencies who would be willing to support the above cause. I specially request all of you to communicate this message to other alumni around the world through your network. I assure you that proper acknowledgements will be given in an appreciation of your support.
The alumni of Anna University (College of Engineering, Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology, Guindy, Madras Institute of Technology, Chromepet and School of Architecture and Planning, Guindy) may forwarded their contributions in favour of
