B.E. GEOINFORMATICS
This 4 year Engineering programme is unique in the Country, started in 1993, with the technical assistance from GTZ, Germany. The annual intake of students varies from 20 to 30. The students are specialised in Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, GIS, Satellite Geodesy and various applications using Remote Sensing and GIS.
P.G. PROGRAMME
M.TECH. REMOTE SENSING & M.E. GEO INFORMATICS
IRS is offering two year Postgraduate programme (4 semesters) in Remote Sensing. Anna University took the lead role in starting this unique PG programme in the country and even today M.Tech. Remote Sensing programme is maintaining its identity for its multidisciplinary nature. This programme was started in 1983 by upgrading postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing into a full-fledged Master’s Degree. The annual intake is about 15 with students from various backgrounds like Civil, Computer science, Electronics and communication, Electrical, Agricultural Engineering and P.G Science degrees in Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries etc. This programme is accredited with ‘A’ grade by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), AICTE. Students are trained in the fields of GIS, GPS, Image Processing and Photogrammetry.
A new Postgraduate programme M.E. (Geoinformatics) is offered from this academic year starting from August 2002 for the benefit of B.E. Geoinformatics, Civil Engineering and M.Sc. (Geology).
M.S. (BY RESEARCH) AND
Ph.D. PROGRAMME
As a part of sustained endeavour to be a leading research institution, M.S. (by research) and Ph.D. programmes are offered in the fields of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and GIS. As on June 2008, 23 Ph.D, and 12 M.S. (by Research) degrees were awarded. Currently 13 Ph.D. & 1 M.S. (by Research) scholars are pursuing for their degrees.
TRAINING
As a part of continuing education, IRS has conducted about 250 training programmes in Remote Sensing and GIS applications in Natural Resources Management, Urban Planning, Surveying using Total Station, GPS, EDM, etc. and Photogrammetry for different levels of officers from various central, state government and private organizations.
C-STAR LAB
Series of training programmes in Cadastral servey are being conducted for staff working in survey and Land Records Dept., of Govt. of Tamil Nadu and also conducting research in the areas of cadastral survey.
