Preamble:
The Centre for University – Industry Collaboration, Anna University Chennai was established in the year 1991 with a primary focus on the following domains namely Campus Placement for Engineering / Management Students, Interaction between Institute – Industry, Faculty Empowerment Programmes, Training Programmes for students on core competency development and action research programmes in engineering and technology.
Campus Placement of Engineering and Management Students:
The campus placement activities for Engineering / Management students are regularly carried out for more than 3000 students belongs to UG / PG programmes studying in the University Departments. Every year around 200 companies from India and abroad, visit the academic portals of Anna University Chennai for their prestigious recruitment in their organizations. The campus placement offers three kinds of jobs namely core, dream and IT/ITES placements for the students which covers 95% of the students from Anna University Chennai.
Industrial Associateship Scheme (IAS):
CUIC had a unique and novel scheme of Industrial Associateship Scheme (IAS) wherein, we enroll small, medium, large scale industries, R&D and Educational institutions with the main aim to carry our industrial / institution combined activities.
Presently, there are 150 Members from Industries, Engineering Colleges , Polytechnics and R & D Institutions. Various interactive Programmes are conducted every year for the benefit of the member-institutions. Programmes for promoting Industry-Institute interactions, Regional Get-togethers of industries, Government-funding agencies, R&D and Educational institutions, etc., are organised at regular intervals for cross pollination of industrial / academic ideas.
Industrial Training:
Industrial training has been made mandatory for all Under-Graduate Branches of Engineering as per the curriculum. This gives wide exposure about the various functions of the Industries prior to the completion of their studies. CUIC with assistance and coordination of various industries and departments is arranging Internship training to students of Anna University Chennai, for Industrial exposure and comparative awareness of the state-of-art of the Industrial climate.
Academic Interface Program with Cognizant Technology Solutions:
CUIC, is also collaborating with Cognizant Technology Solutions for improving engineering students performance for their placement readiness programme under the ageis of “EVOLVE” with the academic support from HR departments and the programme so far reached to more than 1500 students across the State of Tamil Nadu.
Memorandum of Understanding:
The Centre has also been instrumental in forging many MoUs with various Industries and Research and Development Establishments. This MoUs will enhance the students on Internship training, Placement, Industrial readiness, Professional competencies, and also to improve their soft skills.
MoU with AIEMA:
CUIC has signed a MoU with Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association (AIEMA) Technology Centre Educational Trust. Under this MoU, many more collaborative works are being carried out by the centre.
MoU with WIPRO:
CUIC has signed a MoU with Wipro – Mission10X “Talent Transformation” with the main objective of training the Engineering Teachers working in all Engineering Colleges in the State of Tamil Nadu .
Through this programme, all faculty members will receive three levels of International Certification namely Dale Carnegie Certificate, Mission10X Certificate and Cambridge International Certification and the same will enhance their credibility in their Institutions.
Anna University Chennai received the honor of “Trusted Academic Partner” from Wipro Technologies for the Misson10X Programme during August 2009.
Apart from this, Anna University Chennai will also initiate Action Research projects in the state of Tamil Nadu and outcomes of different research will be published in our quarterly journal jointly published by Anna University Chennai and Mission10X Talent Transformation team.
MoU with CTS:
Recently, a MoU has been signed with Cognizant Technology Solutions, an IT Major in Chennai. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding the “On-Campus Pre-Induction Training Programme” is being organized to the recruits of Cognizant Technology Solutions.
MoU with BSNL-TN:
CUIC has signed an MoU with BSNL-TN with the objective of conducting training programme on Mobile Communication for the benefit of Final Year Students of all Self-Financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
MoU with Other IT Industries:
Recently MoU has signed between CUIC and leading IT Industries like Microsoft, IBM and Sun Micro Systems to enable the Teachers and Students from the University Departments and affiliated Colleges to study and understand the innovative concepts, technological development in the software organization.
Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP):
The centre not only concentrates on placement of Anna University Chennai but also we believe that talents are available in Rural, Sub-urban, and Urban Engineering Colleges and hence the centre organizes Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP) by requesting the IT industries and other industries to which will enhance and create confidence to all students.
Projects:
Anna University Chennai is offering three 5 Years Integrated Courses namely M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Information Technology and M.Sc. Electronic Media Science for the students of +2 level (HSC). Those students has to do an intensive one semester intern project in the industries and for that CUIC playing a vital role in Identifying Core, IT and Dream Companies. This kind of exposure has increased the students level to innovative application oriented projects from real life situation, team building / decision making skills and also to adopt to various uncertain situation.
On-Going Activities of the C.U.I.C:
• Conducting Programmes to improve technical presentation, assertiveness, developing leadership attributes and enhancing the level of internal motivation of the students.
• Conducting orientation programmes on Industrial Expectations for the benefit Placement and Training Officers.
• Conducting Seminars, Symposia and Workshops on current topics of national interest to Industrial Personnel.
• Interacting with various Industrial Personnel and consolidating the Industrial demand / expectations for the benefit of the students.
• Developed different Monographs and Modules to suit the needs of the industries.
• Co-ordinating Industrial Consultancy / Testing / Research in collaboration with University Departments.
• Career Guidance and Counseling for U.G. and P.G. Students.
Benefits of Industrial Associateship Scheme (IAS):
• The members can avail 3 library tickets. Xeroxing of leading journal technical papers can be made and other related facilities shall be extended on a very nominal payment.
• Fifty percent concession on consultancy charges will be given for the minimum charge alone.
• Twenty five percent concession on registration fee for attending Conferences / Short Term Courses / Continuing Education Programmes conducted by the Anna University , Chennai.
• CUIC may organize one or two special seminars / symposia in a year in the thrust areas of technology and also on Technology Appreciation Programmes (TAP) for the benefit of the members at free of cost.
• Members will get preference in inviting the faculty of Anna University Chennai for any specific lecture / technical talk in their organization.
• General and technical information available in the CUIC will be provided to the members and the exchange of information shall be both ways.
• Priority will be given by the University in taking up student projects and industrial training in areas identified by the member industries with their cooperation and financial support.
• Industry members can avail of / may provide video films / information materials on products manufacturing techniques etc.,
• Meeting of the Associate members will be arranged once a year to which an eminent speaker will be invited to give a lecture on a topic of current interest.
• Annual Publication, calendar, directory, brochures etc., will be sent exclusively to the members.
• Members being in our mailing list will receive information on Continuing Education Programmes, Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Special lectures etc., held at Anna University on a regular basis.
