HISTORY
Building
Technology Centre was established in 1994 by HUDCO and functions
under the aegis of Anna University. Building Technology Centre
develops and propagates building materials and methodologies,
which can reduce the construction costs from 10% to 25% using
Nationally Acknowledged Technologies and scientifically established
methods. Dr.E.Balagurusamy, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University
is Chairman. Dr.P.Devadas Manoharan, Professor of Civil Engineering,
is the Executive Director.
OBJECTIVES
To
help the development of small-scale industries relating to housing
in rural areas.
To
develop entrepreneurship in technical infrastructure and manufacture
of low-cost building components
To
conduct short courses, seminars, symposium periodically etc.
to transfer the latest technology and knowledge to practicing
engineers
To
provide design services marketing with the appropriate technologies
relating to local needs
To
organize such programmes that will generate employment opportunities
for both unskilled and skilled people.
Promote
research in housing and use of local building materials and
innovative construction techniques towards designing of rural
and urban housing.
OTHER
ACTIVITIES
The
Centre is conducting training programme for Civil Engineers,
Supervisors, skilled and unskilled labours such as Mason Training
for Women masons, Bar bending training programme, Electrician
training programme.The
centre is involved in the production of cost effective building
materials for building construction like Hollow concrete block,
Ferro cement roofing channel, Prestressed precast roof planks,
FAL –G bricks and blocks.The
Centre is involved in Consultancy and construction activities.
G + 3 Square base – Pyramid as a steel concrete composite
structure and Gym for corporation of Chennai with space truss
roof are worth mentioning.The
centre is also extending facilities for research students.It
is proposed to conduct a workshop on building materials like
cement, flyash, admixtures etc to promote the technological
aspects to people in supervisor grade periodically in future.To
help self-help women group, it is proposed to conduct women
mason training programmes in future.
