PREAMBLE
Industrial
Engineering is concerned with the design, improvement and installation
of integrated systems of labor, materials, equipment and space.
It draws on specialized knowledge and skill in the mathematical,
physical, social and computer sciences, together with the principles
and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict,
measure, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems.
The
Industrial Engineering as a specialization under the faculty
of Mechanical Engineering has been given a due recognition by
forming into a division under the Department of Management studies,
in the year 1973. The same division has been upgraded to a full-fledged
department of Industrial Engineering in the year 2002.
Courses
offered:
The
Department of Industrial Engineering offers the following
programs:
1. B.E. Industrial Engineering (Full time)
2. B.E. Industrial Engineering (Part time evening program)
3. M.E. Industrial Engineering (Full time)
4. M.E. Quality Engineering and Management (Part time evening
program)
5. M.S. (by research)
6. Ph.D. (full time and part time).

FACULTY
AND FACILITIES
The
department has fulltime faculty specialized in all the relevant
areas. The research projects handled by faculty in the department
are funded by AICTE and local Industries. The publications of
faculty members have appeared both in International and national
journals. Regular attendance in the conferences and short-term
training programs by faculty and students is highly encouraged.
The lab facilities in the department include: Work design and
Ergonomics lab, CAM lab, and Computer applications lab. In addition
to required hardware, various software packages relevant to
Industrial Engineering are available in the department.
TRAINING
AND CONTINUING EDUCATION
Regular
Industrial visits are being arranged for students and Industrial
Training is imparted to students as summer training program
in Industries. Students are encouraged to take-up Industry related
problems for their project works. Membership in professional
societies is encouraged among students and faculty members.
The Society of Industrial Engineers, a student body is quite
active in the department. Operational Research Society of India,
Chennai chapter is being operated from the department of Industrial
Engineering.
PLACEMENT
The
students of Industrial Engineering department are well placed
in both manufacturing and service sector. Many students who
opted for higher studies have secured admission in leading Universities
in India and abroad.
VISION
STATEMENT
We,
at the Department of Industrial Engineering, shall strive hard
to impart knowledge and state of art training to our students
and expose them to the current and broad areas of Industrial
Engineering, so that they can become proficient to increase
productivity and quality of organizations and practice their
profession in India and abroad maintaining professional and
ethical standards and contribute to the welfare of the society
