The Department of Chemical Engineering, at A.C. College of Technology has a sound research tradition and kept itself abreast with the latest of the times by fostering research in the frontier areas of chemical engineering.

One of the chief strengths of the department is the dedicated faculty who have been instrumental in establishing the department as one of the best in the country.

The sophisticated instruments laboratory, housing several analytical instruments plays a major role in the characterisation experiments performed as part of industrial consultancy projects. Water and air quality analyses can also be carried out using the facilities in the department. The Dr. G.S. Laddha Process Simulation laboratory is the latest milestone in the development of the department and has the popular process simulation software ASPEN on a 15-terminal computer network, which is poised to serve as a powerful tool for students to master the modeling and simulation of chemical engineering processes. In addition, the laboratory can serve as an industry-institute interface where engineers and technicians can be trained to acquire software skills to simulate process behaviour that are becoming more and more indispensable.

Brief Write up of Most Successful Research Projects:

Development of Caprolactam blocked Methylenediphenyl diisocyanate
The objectives of the present project proposal is to synthesize caprolactam blocked methylenediphenyl diisocyanate by both solvent and melt method followed by the characterization of the product for its purity by spectral, chromatographic and determination of its melting point. Further the product synthesized in the proposed project will be made in the form of emulsion using appropriate emulsifier (sodium dioctyl sulpha succinate), in order to ascertain its utility towards application as adhesion promoter for the treatment of industrial polyester yarns and fabrics for tyre cord applications.

Areas of application : For the treatment of industrial polyester yarns and fabrics for tyre cord applications.
