AU- FRG is offering services to the needs of Indian Industries in CAD/CAM/CAE areas to enable them to become global players and offers a part time PG course on Product Design and Development suited to the needs of the industry. The Institute provides consultancy to industries in large, medium and small scale sectors, besides R&D organization and government sector organizations, to small and medium sector companies like Automobile Manufacturers as well as Automotive ancillary parts manufacturers and consumer product industries etc. The Institute is equipped with the latest version of CAD/CAM/CAE Software tools with matching hardware facilities. However, the major unique strength lies in people and experts in every engineering field who are available under this single umbrella, called AU-FRG Institute for CAD/CAM drawn from various departments of the University. The AU-FRG ICC by its sheer strength in hardware and software could handle any industrial projects requiring new product design, product modeling, and optimization in product design, mechanical and thermal stress analysis, NC code generation and CAM. In addition, the institute is having a team of dedicated and experienced project engineers, who can handle the problems requiring CAD/CAM/CAE tools.

The Central Workshop Division focuses on work related manufacturing which includes casting (magnetic moldings, squeeze casting and stir casting of composites), welding (gas welding and TIG), machining (CNC machines, cryomachining and composite machining) and forming (super plastic forming, equichannel extrusion, warm forming).The division also works on automation (microprocessor control, hydraulics and pneumatics) and manufacturing system optimization. Non-conventional machining like electro-discharge machining and electrochemical machining as well as micromachining using them are few leading edge technologies. The metrology facilities like co-ordinate measuring machine, surface roughness profilometer etc. enable to measure manufactured products.
Engineering Design Division

Areas of specialization: Fracture Mechanics, Fatigue, Solid Mechanics, Mechanisms, Vibrations, Composite Materials, Finite Element Analysis, Jigs and Fixtures, Press Tools, Computer Aided Design, and Optimization Design Techniques.
Facilities: Dynamics Lab, CAD Lab, NVH Lab (Noise, Vibration and Harshness Lab) and Tribology Lab for testing and consultancy assignments.
The division involves research in broad area of materials like composites (metal matrix, polymer matrix and ceramic matrix), nanomaterials (chemical route and mechano-milling) and biomaterials supported by material characterization facilities like optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, UV spectrophotometer, ultrasonic flaw detector and dilatometer.
The division hoist mechanical testing facilities like universal testing machine, Rockwell-Brinell hardness tester, micro-vickers hardness tester and Charpy-Izod Impact Tester.
Internal Combustion Engines Division

The ever increasing price of fossil fuel and stringent emission norms laid down by the government has rekindled the interest of use of alternate fuel in IC engines. The division holds two patents on this area and undertakes consultancy work and testing of engines and their related components as per BIS.
Facilities : Dynamometers like eddy current, direct current, swinging field and hydraulic type with measuring capabilities upto 250 kW. Highly sophisticated instruments like Analog Digital converter with systems studying the combustion characteristics and analysers for measuring CO, HC, NOx and smoke meter for pollution measurements are available. Facilities are also available to test fuels and lubricants in Fuel Chemistry Laboratory.
Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Division

This division is involved in research activities focusing on Alternate Refrigerants, Absorption cooling systems and thermal storage systems. In the recent past two refrigerant mixtures were evolved as a replacement for CFC 12 and HCFC 22.A patent has been obtained on one of the above mixtures and the patent filed on the other mixture is under review. The replacement mixture for CFC 12 is under consideration to be adopted by a MNC for their refrigerator.
Facilities available : Psychrometric test room, cryochambers, Automotive A/C test rig, Facility for Flow boiling Heat transfer study, IAQ measurement tools and sorption cooling systems.
Refrigeration and Air-conditioning division offers consultancy in Indoor air quality assessment, HVAC systems design,Cryogenic treatment of materials and Energy conservation in buildings.
