1950s English was offered as a course in the first two years of the five-year B.E. B.Tech.degree programme

1978 Formation of Anna University with greater recognition and status for the English department.

1989 Establishment of Language Laboratory

1990 Faculty of the Department collaborated with British Council and Thames Valley University on ODA project. One major outcome was the publication of English course book, English for Engineers and Technologists in two volumes

2000 Third Revision and publication of the Text book as a combined version English for Engineers & Technologists.

August 2007. Established Communications Laboratory with multimedia facilities
