The department has a new Annexure building added to its assets on 23 December 2009 and inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mannar Jawahar.
The Annexure building includes Smart Class Rooms-Amethyst and Zircon, Petrology and Mineralogy Lab, Geological Musuem, and Spectro Radiometry lab. The class rooms, Amethyst and Zircon, can house more than 25 students and are fully equipped with latest devices like Electronic Overhead Projectors, wireless mic and computer aided interactive panels for better teaching and learning experience.
The department also has an air conditioned Auditorium ‘Hall of Gems’, which can house about 50 persons and is fully equipped with latest audio visual systems along with interactive presentation panels for better ambience for various research interaction sessions and Ph. D viva voce examinations.
