The Department of Media Sciences has excellent multimedia laboratory facilities, and audio and video studios equipped with the latest technology to offer hands-on training to students.
The multimedia laboratory is equipped with the latest versions of 2D and 3D software such as Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Director, Discreet Combustion and 3D Studio Max.
The students may specialize in audio programme production, wherein they are provided with the latest microphones and digital audio recorders for real-time training. The department has a good digital audio laboratory facility, with software such as Sound Forge and Nuendo, which help the students to learn audio recording, mixing and layering.
Gyan Vani, Chennai, an educational radio station, is stationed in the Department of Media Sciences. It provides students with the much-needed real-time experience as they script and produce a variety of programmes. Also, the Educational Multimedia Research Centre and the community radio Anna FM are on our campus, which facilitate media training for our students.
To train the students in video programme production, the department provides the latest digital video cameras for indoor and outdoor shooting. The department has a non-linear video editing laboratory with editing software such as Adobe Premier Pro working in the Windows operating system and Final Cut Pro working in Macintosh. There are also exclusive computers dedicated to students who specialize in non-linear editing loaded with AVID software.
The library of the department houses a wide range of books on journalism, audio production and presentation, video production, lighting techniques, video camera handling, non-linear editing, advertising, corporate communication, media management, web designing, graphics, multimedia, visual effects, and media research methods.
Anna University has signed memoranda of understanding with UNICEF India Country Office; Maastricht University, The Netherlands; Queen Mary College, University of London, The United Kingdom; and Birmingham City University, The United Kingdom. There are frequent collaborative ventures between the Department of Media Sciences, Anna University, and these institutions.
