Battery Design

Lithium ion batteries are chosen for power storage. Use of lithium ion (li- Ion) Batteries as against the usual Nickel Cadmium (NiCad ) provides double the energy density ratio and needs less number of cells in series to provide the required bus voltage. The depth of discharge (DOD) is kept at 20% for 2 years of battery lifetime.

Series parallel combination Battery cells are formed to obtain the required Voltage and Power. The Power Control Electronic (PCE) basically houses the circuit for power bus formation. Battery charge and discharge control and power distribution from Un-regulated Bus (URB) and the TM (telemetry) sensing circuits.
