Roots of CEG dates back to May 1794 when it was formed as a School of Survey. It was established as a college in 1859 under the Madras University, and is India's oldest engineering and technical institution. With close ties to industry, CEG’s Mechanical Department has excellent research practices and multiple extra-curricular options for the students. CEG provides opportunities for ample growth for every individual student and it promotes collaborative practices too. The Mechanical engineering course in CEG is currently approved by the AICTE - All India Council for Technical Education which was established for proper planning & co-ordinated development of technical education system throughout the country.
About The Department
The Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), as well as in the country. Established in the year 1894, CEG’s Mechanical Department has been providing excellent learning and research opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate students, in addition to providing consultancy services to the multiple industries.
We, at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Anna University shall strive hard to impart knowledge and state-of-the-art training to our students and expose them to broad areas of Mechanical Engineering, namely Design, Manufacturing, Energy, Thermal Sciences and currently related interdisciplinary areas, so that they can later practice their profession at home or abroad keeping in mind the needs and concern of the society they represent, safeguarding values, ethics and be instrumental in bringing about an overall technological development.
1. To deliver knowledge in Mechanical Engineering with high educational standards so that the outgoing students are employable and globally competitive.
