The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, a University Department in the College of Engineering Guindy Campus, Anna University, Chennai, though one of the oldest in the country, is equipped with state of the art laboratories for carrying out advanced electronic hardware design and fabrication as well as software development. The department has highly qualified and accomplished faculty with a dedication to research as well as the drive to equip our students with the fundamental knowledge and skills that enables them to confidently step out and excel in their career, higher studies as well as any other endeavours. With this foundation of the excellent infrastructure developed over the past two decades, the core faculty strength, dedicated supporting staff of the department and the continuous encouragement from the University, the Department will continue creating quality engineers with sound technical knowledge and skills, and with an awareness of the latest advancements in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and allied technologies.
The Department has the distinction of being the first in India to start the Under Graduate programme in Telecommunication System Engineering in the year 1945 and the first Post Graduate programme in Communication Systems in 1963. Subsequently, in line with the technical advancements, the PG programmes in Applied Electronics, Bio-Medical Engineering, Optical Communication, Medical Electronics and VLSI Design were introduced.
The faculty at Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering are actively involved in carrying out sponsored research, thereby equipping the department with advanced facilities as well as train the faculty and students on the same.
This department has received support from DST-FIST and UGC-SAP and is also the lead department for University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) in Biomedical Engineering and Instrumentation.
The Department maintains active collaboration with industries for curricular design, student interships and major project works, hands-on training workshops on latest hardwares and softwares, collaborative research and product development and technology transfer. This department has many filed and awarded patents to its credit. Over and above the research works carried out by research scholars and project staff, the Under Graduate and Post Graduate students are also encouraged to be involved in the research and developmental activities of the department.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at College of Engineering Campus, has been a benchmark for many of the other Institutions as well as Universities, in and around the state and is most sought after by the high ranking students. The training imparted to the students, the opportunities and freedom provided to them for a holistic development, as well as the excellent performance of the students has enabled the department to maintain its strength and brand image and retain a respectable status among the major recruiters.

The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering (DECE), which became a part of this celebrated institution in the year 1945, is one of the leaders in India in this field of technology.
