Coastal Regulation Zone
of Pudukottai District
Geographic
Location: Pudukottai
coastal zone lies between Kattumavadi and north Varshali river bank. Geographically
it is located 79° 17' 30''-79 51' E longitude and 9°50'-10° 7'30''N longitudes.
This district covers an area of 4,649 sq.km.

Physiography: This
coastal stretch consists of narrow region of sandy beach along the coast in the
delta regions of Vellar River. Geology:
The
coastal sands of recent age overlie the Tertiary rocks.
Geomorphology: The
geomorphic features observed in this coast is sandy plain with elevation varying
from 6 to10m above the MSL. Distribution

Human
Settlement: This
district comprises of seven taluks that is Gandaravakottai, Kuluture, Alangudi,
Tirumayam, Pudukottai, Arantangi and Avadaiyarkoil. The total population of this
district is 13,22,494. In this 6,59,241 are male and 6,63,253 are female. Density
of population is 284 sq.km. The important occupation of the people of this distict
is agriculture and fishing. Tourism:
Pudukottai,
Sittanna Vasal, Narthamalai, Manalmelkudi and Tirukokarnam are the important tourist
places in this district.
Climate: The
minimum and maximum temperatures range between 20° C and 32°C.
